Wake up, are you alive, will you listen

Yesterday I started doing productive work for the first time this trimester. At first it was great, but after a quarter of an hour it became excessively obvious that I was on the Pipitea campus, in the area jokingly referred to as "the Commerce library". There were loudspeaker announcements from the railway station downstairs, crashes and sirens from the two building sites in the same block, and more proximately, people talking in several different languages. When the effort of tuning all this out became too great I fished out babyMac and my big headphones. The music made it much easier to get some work done, but it took several minutes to get my noise cancelling all set up, and several minutes more to dismantle it when I was done. And then babyMac's battery was so low I couldn't use it for the rest of the day (not having time to sit down and charge it).

Two hours later I left Pipitea, sprinted down to LV Martin, and bought an iPod Shuffle.

I shall call it babyPod.

Also yesterday were an ECON 314 tutorial and lecture. The tutorial, held in what must be the smallest seminar room in the university, was fairly helpful - I'm now around 75% of the way to understanding how to calculate the value of information, rather than my previous 50%. The lecture made me confused all over again about a different thing. To his credit, Jack spent the first ten minutes reiterating what he'd rushed over in Tuesday's lecture, which helped.

He's not being too hard on literary criticism, he's being too soft on sociology.
