You can't have a little bit of sex, but you can drink a little bit of alcohol. I let the payoffs in all situations be multiples of the quantity of alcohol, covered over the thin parts with intellectual ducktape, and hammered the stupid model together until it stopped being self-contradictory. It is not a thing of beauty nor a joy forever, but at least I have something to hand in.
